1. Help to buy a used PC by matching a grant – You can help a student to buy a used PC for 10,000 LKR/100 USD. There are students who have saved up to 5,000 LKR/50 USD and they are waiting for matching the rest 500 LKR/50 USD. More than 50 students have benefitted in the past through this scheme. 2. Help a student/youth/ a school to join the mesh wireless Internet network – The wireless mesh network is available everywhere in the village. To join the network, a student or youth is required to pay an initial fee of 20,000 LKR/200 USD. We hope more donors sponsor this fee so that more students and youths can get Internet facilities for their educational and professional development. So far, 30 houses and 4 public schools have benefitted from this network through funding agencies.

3. Sponsoring a senior student or youth with a used or new laptop – You can sponsor a senior student or a youth who aspires to continue with higher education in ICT or English by providing him/her with a used or new laptop. 4. Sponsoring the expense of landscaping the Horizon Lanka garden – The Horizon Lanka Foundation is situated in the Dry Zone of Sri Lanka and its garden needs financial support to install a sprinkler system and/or drip irrigation system to grow grass in the garden and cultivate fruits. We will provide the budget if you are willing to sponsor this scheme.

5. Sponsoring the expense of the fence and the gate of Horizon Lanka – Horizon Lanka’s garden needs to be protected from stray cattle. We need financial support to have a fence/mesh around the garden and a proper gate. We hope someone will be able to provide us with this support.

6. Sponsoring the repairs of the Horizon Lanka building – the Horizon Lanka building was built in 2005/2006 and is in need of repairs. We can provide you with the budget if you are willing to help us.

7. Sponsorship to complete the partly built Horizon Lanka building – A foundation has been laid to build a structure in order to house the Montessori children and the library of Horizon Lanka. We need your support to complete this venture.

8. Sponsoring a vehicle to Horizon Lanka – Horizon Lanka needs a van or a bus for its transport needs. It can be used for renting out to the villagers to fund the maintenance of the vehicle and to cover the cost of fuel.

9. Sponsorship to develop the playground – There is a playground opposite Horizon Lanka. Its ground is uneven and doesn’t have a fence around it. We hope these things can be solved with your financial support.

Fundraise for Us –
Horizon Lanka Foundation is a Guaranteed Limited entity that depends on both donations and income generated through its activities to run the organization. Since the income levels of the villagers are moderate, we cannot impose the total cost of the project on the beneficiaries. We need your support in raising funds. If you yourself cannot donate, you can raise funds on our behalf from the country where you live. We will provide you the material (photos, success stories, video clips, financial details, etc.) needed for a fundraising campaign.)

Other Ways to Give –
We would appreciate the donation of any spare or disused sports equipment, DVDs, books (children’s/young adults fiction, non-fiction, dictionaries, etc.), writing materials, licensed software, arts and crafts material, and pre-school/Montessori equipment.

However, there are two major factors to take in to consideration when donating goods of this nature;

1. Shipping Costs – this can often negate the value of the goods themselves, depending upon the bulk & weight of the goods and the distance they need to travel.

2. Customs – the Duty payable (up to 40%), customs clearance charges and the sheer amount of time it takes to get these gifts and donations out of Colombo Port is a major consideration when arranging for supplies to imported from abroad. We often cannot afford the time or the money to collect items that have a small monetary value, which may in fact be cheaper to purchase in Sri Lanka.

Whilst not wanting to discourage your generosity and desire to help us here at the Horizon Lanka Foundation, we would like to ask that you liaise with us first before donating any such material and, if necessary, be prepared to either transport the materials yourselves, or send us the equivalent amount in currency so that we can purchase the required goods here.
