Since 2003, Lak Saviya Foundation, Australia (www.laksaviya.org.au) has been helping Horizon Lanka in numerous ways, especially when it mattered most. In 2003, when Horizon Lanka encountered difficulties for paying the staff, Lak Saviya came to rescue by paying the teachers’ salaries for several years. The teachers have been working as volunteers till then but Lak Saviya foresaw that volunteerism could not go very far in a rural village environment like Mahavilachchiya. Thus, paying for teachers’ hard work commenced with Lak Saviya’s initiative and sponsorship.

Lak Saviya also facilitated a free scholarship program for senior Horizon Lanka students to study at IDM centers in Anuradhapura, Gampaha and Colombo. In addition to that, periodically Lak Saviya donated books, computers, sporting equipment etc. to Horizon Lanka.

In 2009, Horizon Lanka encountered financial difficulties in paying salaries for an English and ICT teacher. Lak Saviya extended its assistance by providing two teachers’ salaries (25,000 LKR in total per month) from January to December. Without this timely donation, Horizon Lanka’s academic activities would have been discontinued and it could have even faced the closure of the organization. However, with Lak Saviya’s generosity we could continue the teaching program by using both local teachers and foreign volunteers in the year 2009. The assistance provided by Lak Saviya during its difficult periods gave a Horizon Lanka a ‘breathing period’ and a ‘new life’, and has been immensely helpful to take Horizon Lanka .
In addition to above assistance given to Horizon Lanka, we value the timely advice Lak Saviya has been providing Horizon Lanka during its crucial junctures, since 2003. Being an organization formed by a team of Sri Lankan professionals currently based in Sydney, Australia, Lak Saviya Foundation has been providing numerous assistance to us, Mahavilachchiya village and other rural organizations in Sri Lanka.
